Brentwood Chamber’s Nonprofit of Year

Late last year, the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce sent out a social media notice to see which nonprofit groups could qualify as the 2018 Brentwood Nonprofit of the Year. The city’s top business organization listed 28 nonprofit organizations that were eligible to be included in the contest. When the tallies were counted and recently announced, one of the newest nonprofits took home the award. Two years in the making and with their doors open for just eight months, it seems that Brentwood’s Working Wonders has made a big impression in the community already.
“A lot of the credit goes to my husband, Matt Schwab,” said the group’s administrator, Christine Schwab. “He’s really good at outreach and talks to a lot of people about what we do, which has led to good connections and opportunities.”
As parents of a son with special needs, the Schwabs worked to put this program together with other influential members of the community in an effort to find sustainable programs for young adults with special needs. Their mission is to serve adults with developmental disabilities within their community by providing sustainable opportunities to improve their lives. The program is open ages 22 and older, as that’s about the age young adults with disabilities cycle out of local school programs.
